HSE University hosted a roundtable for international students, organised by the interuniversity student project Adventures of Foreigners in Russia. Participants of the roundtable received helpful tips and guides on adapting to life in Russia, along with practical information and recommendations on getting around, where to go, and what to do in Moscow during their free time. International students also shared their personal stories about why they chose to move to Russia and how their studies at the university are progressing.

In early May 2025, official delegations from across the globe arrived in Moscow to celebrate the anniversary of Victory Day. Volunteers were enlisted to welcome and accompany these distinguished guests. Among the volunteers were students from the bachelor’s programme in Asian and African Studies at the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs (WEIA): Natalya Kulakova (third-year student), Polina Slobodenko (first-year student), and Anton Klyuev, a 2024 graduate of the same programme and Visiting Lecturer at HSE’s School of Asian Studies.

School and university students from across Russia came to HSE University to take on the roles of representatives of various countries and international organisations. Over the course of several days, they participated in debates, striving to reach mutual understanding with other delegations and to find solutions to global issues.

The BRICS Youth Innovation Summit 2025 was held in Cape Town on April 10–11, 2025. The event was attended by political and business leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The summit focused on the theme ‘Innovating the Future: Technology for Sustainability and Social Good,’ under which the participants presented their projects. Students of the Faculty of Economic Sciences have shared their experiences of the trip to South Africa, their presentations at the BRICS summit, penguin encounters, and more!

Alina Pakhomova, a fourth-year student of the Bachelor’s Programme ‘Information Science and Computation Technology’ at the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (HSE MIEM), spent six months studying at the oldest university in Europe — the University of Bologna. She went to Italy as part of an academic mobility programme, and upon returning to Moscow, she shared her impressions of life and studying abroad, her leisure activities, new friends, and, of course, the famous Italian cuisine.

Interpreting at international forums, accompanying delegations, and informal communication with native speakers—students of the Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies at the Institute of Asian and African Studies (HSE University-St Petersburg) gain experience starting from the first year of bachelor's studies. In early September 2024, Anastasia Usyk, a graduate of the Bachelor’s Programme in Asian and African Studies at HSE University in St Petersburg, participated in the final round of the ‘Chinese Bridge’ International Language Competitionin Beijing, where she won the first prize in online voting and received the Audience Award and the Award for Most Outstanding Performance. She spoke about her experience in the competition,her studies and future plans in an interview with HSE News Service.

In August, 2024, the China ICBC Training Camp took place in Guiyang. The Youthful Passion Fruit team from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science participated in the programming contest. This event brought together around 40 teams from China, Japan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Mexico, and other countries.

The Tenth BRICS Youth Summit was held in Ulyanovsk from July 22 to 26. The event was attended by more than 200 early-career professionals from Brazil, India, China, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, South Africa, and Russian regions. Participants gathered to discuss current global issues and explore opportunities for youth collaboration. In May 2024, Pretoria, the capital of South Africa, hosted the BRICS+ Youth Innovation Summit, where students from HSE University represented Russia. They successfully defended their business projects and were among the top 15 speakers, winning the event. The summit was organised by the South African BRICS Youth Association (SABYA).
