From 12–16 October 2022, the ‘Balkan Dialogue’ event took place at the Russian House in Belgrade and the Vojvodina Archives in Novi Sad, Serbia. Balkan Dialogue is an international programme organised annually by the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund. Students and professors from HSE University and other Russian universities were among the participants of the programme. The academic supervisor of the event was Professor Ekaterina Entina, Director of the Mediterranean Studies Centre at the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs.

Today, Russia is striving to develop its relationships with the countries of East and South Asia and the Middle East. Politicians, diplomats, and businesspeople need to be aware of the specifics of Eastern states, their traditions and culture. To develop a new level of relations, it is important to provide high-quality education for Asian studies specialists. This was discussed at the First International Academic Conference ‘Oriental Civilisations: A View from the 21st Century’ hosted by HSE University. The Conference was attended by scientists from Russia, China, Turkey, Japan, Iran, and other countries.

Russia and Nigeria have good prospects for cooperation in many economic sectors—from mining, petrochemicals, agriculture, and high-tech manufacturing to education and mutual investment. The Embassy of Nigeria in Russia, together with NUIA Consulting and HSE University, has held a business briefing on ‘Entering New Markets: Nigeria—Opportunities, Prospects and Practical Experience of Russian Companies’.

In early September, the HSE University Faculty of Computer Science hosted the international conference Computer Methods of Cognitome Analysis. The event was organised by the International Laboratory of Algebraic Topology and Its Applications at the faculty.

Russia’s relations with Ibero-America go back more than five centuries and include more than 200 years of permanent diplomatic relations. The need to build a multipolar world and expand cooperation between Russia and the countries of Latin America—including in the field of science and education—was discussed at the Third International Ibero-America and Russia: Diplomacy and Diplomats Conference held at HSE University.

Participants of the discussion ‘Trading in Allowances for GhG Emissions at Sub-national Level: Ways to Use International Best Practices in Russia’ analysed how the emissions trading system will work and what place nuclear power will occupy in the carbon-free world. The event was held as part of the session ‘Problems of Decarbonization of the World Economy’ of the XXIII Yasin (April) International Academic Conference.

From April 5–22, 2002, the  XXIII Yasin (April) International Academic Conference on Economic and Social Development will be held in Moscow. Its participants include leading scientists and experts, representatives from the business community, politicians and leaders of state bodies. Over 700 papers will be presented at the Conference and discussed in almost 150 sessions and 24 sections.

On December 1, key areas of HSE University’s recently adopted strategy were presented at the extended meeting of the International Advisory Committee. Outgoing and new members of IAC learnt more about the University’s initiatives in human capital and AI research, as well as about its plans to build a Master’s Engineering School.

On December 1^st and 2^nd, 2021, the eLearning Stakeholders and Researchers Summit (eSTARS 2021), an international online conference organized by HSE University in partnership with Coursera, will take place. eSTARS will discuss pressing issues facing universities today in the context of the growing interdependence of digital technology, the economy and education.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused global economic, social and technological transformations. Experts from HSE University and other education and research institutions from various countries discussed these transformations and other relevant trends for the future at the 3rd International Conference ‘East and West at the Stage of New Transformations: The Post-Covid Changes’.
