Interpreting at international forums, accompanying delegations, and informal communication with native speakers—students of the Department of Middle Eastern and African Studies at the Institute of Asian and African Studies (HSE University-St Petersburg) gain experience starting from the first year of bachelor's studies. On May 22, ICEF HSE hosted a delegation from the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics’ Research Institute of Economics and Management (RIEM SWUFE) in Chengdu, China, led by RIEM Executive Dean Professor Dong Yan. The parties exchanged signed copies of a cooperation agreement for the joint delivery of a Double-Degree Bachelor Programme in Economics and Finance. They also discussed future prospects for cooperation in areas such as a joint Master’s programme, student and faculty exchange, summer schools, and joint research projects.

From April 26 to May 7, a team of professors and students from HSE University-St Petersburg conducted a field study in the Indian Himalayas. Below, Aleksei Sorbale, academic supervisor of the Bachelor's programme 'Political Science and World Politics', and Pavel Bazarov, a student of the Master's programme 'Global and Regional History', speak about their research and share their impressions of the expedition.

HSE University and Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE) have signed a cooperation agreement to offer a Bachelor's double degree programme in Economics and Finance. The participating partners are the International Institute of Economics and Finance (ICEF) at HSE University and the Research Institute of Economics and Management (RIEM) at SWUFE.

HSE University has hosted the signing of cooperation agreements with two Iranian universities—Allameh Tabataba’i University (ATU) and the University of Isfahan (UI). Delegations from the universities led by ATU President Abdollah Motamedi and UI President Hossein Harsij visited HSE University and met with Rector Nikita Anisimov and staff of the HSE International Office led by Vice Rector Victoria Panova.

In 2023, the HSE Art and Design School will launch a new international direction at its representative office in Yerevan, Armenia. Its first programme will be the Bachelor’s in Communication Design implemented jointly with the Russian-Armenian University. The programme aims to provide a unified space for those who would like to obtain an up-to-date design education taught in Russian.

The number of HSE students from Africa has exceeded 200 this year. Today, 235 students from 31 African countries study at the university. Last year, 175 students from 29 countries studied at HSE University.

Anastasia Likhacheva was appointed Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs in November 2021. During her first six months in this position, she has faced numerous new challenges.
