HSE University will develop and strengthen its cooperation with leading Indonesian universities. HSE Vice Rector Victoria Panova visited the largest island state in the world and held talks with the administration of four leading institutions.

Anastasia Likhacheva was appointed Dean of the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs in November 2021. During her first six months in this position, she has faced numerous new challenges. In her interview with HSE University Life, she explains how she and the Faculty have been coping, why she spent just one year working outside of academia, and how prospective students can rethink their future careers in international relations.

In June, a delegation from the FCS and HSE MIEM visited Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan, to present student start-ups to the IT community. The trip was organised as part of a programme to develop entrepreneurship among undergraduate and doctoral students of the HSE University Faculty of Computer Science.

HSE University in Moscow held the ‘30 Years Together’ International Partners’ Week. Embassy and university representatives from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan attended the opening meeting. Representatives of HSE campuses in Perm, Nizhny Novgorod, and St. Petersburg also took part in the event.

Galina E. Volodina has been the Campus Director in Perm since 1997. Under her leadership, the Perm campus has turned into the major player in shaping the region’s future—be it general education, retaining of talents, or R&D. In her interview for the HSE Look, Galina Volodina shares how HSE Perm’s development agenda has been altered and what are its current priorities.

On February 1, a group of American students started their short-term on-campus study programme at HSE University. During three months, the students will take courses in post-Soviet Russian history, contemporary Russian domestic and foreign policy, social anthropology, and a practical course of Russian as a Foreign Language.

On December 1, key areas of HSE University’s recently adopted strategy were presented at the extended meeting of the International Advisory Committee. Outgoing and new members of IAC learnt more about the University’s initiatives in human capital and AI research, as well as about its plans to build a Master’s Engineering School.

On November 4-6, 2021, the 14th Kyujanggak International Symposium on Korean Studies took place. This is one of the world’s most prestigious academic Korean Studies gatherings, attracting leading experts from various countries. Elena Khokhlova, Associate Professor of the HSE School of Asian Studies, presented the results of her research at the symposium. We talked to Elena about the event, and her interest in Korean studies, as well as HSE students’ research and interest in Korea.
